Facebook Shares Latest e-Commerce Updates

Discover New Ways to Shop Across Facebook’s Apps

Facebook has shared its latest e-Commerce updates, introducing new ways to shop across their apps and additional features aimed at helping businesses sell via their platforms.

In May 2020, the social networking service launched ‘Shops’ on Facebook and Instagram, allowing businesses to sell through both platforms, and customers to discover and buy new products from the brands they love.

Today, Facebook has over 300 million monthly Shop visitors and over 1.2 million monthly active Shops.

As part of their e-commerce expansion, Facebook has announced it will be bringing the feature to Whatsapp, as well as to Marketplace in the US, helping businesses to reach over 1 billion visitors each month.

The existing Shop in Instagram will also become more advanced; ratings and reviews for will be introduced, and users will be able to view product photos and videos from the community.

Regarding personalised ads, Facebook stated, “In the future, we’ll explore ways to help brands further personalise their Shops ads by providing special offers or promotions to select shoppers.”

What’s more, Facebook are investing in immersive technologies, such as augmented reality and artificial intelligence. Specifically, Facebook is testing a visual search tool powered by AI, which guides netizens to items similar to those they see online – just with a single tap.

Facebook stated, “In the future we’ll make it possible for people to take photos from their camera to start a visual search.”

These are exciting times for e-Commerce; stay tuned to see what else is in store.
