The Social Media App Wants To Increase Creativity By Expanding Reels From 30 To 60 Seconds
It’s the update that no one was really waiting for: Instagram has extended the maximum ‘Reels’ length from 30 to 60 seconds.
The social media giant announced the update this week by tweeting a humorous meme, implying that a 30-second extension to Reels will open your mind.

Instagram seems to have followed in the footsteps of its rivals, TikTok and YouTube; TikTok now allows videos up to three minutes, whilst YouTube Shorts can be up to 60 seconds long.
What’s more, Instagram has added a captions sticker for Reels, meaning users can now convert audio into text-based captions, and is trialling a similar vertical-display format to TikTok for a Reels-style Explore section.

As these new features show, Instagram are consistently updating ‘Reels’ to give users a better vertical-scrolling experience, so TikTok, you better watch out!
