TikTok Shows Support For Sexual Assault Consciousness Month

TikTok Launches New Support Resources And Tools

TikTok has announced a brand new set of support resources and tools as part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month; this is a significant initiative for the app. Its audience is a younger demographic who are socially active individuals.

TikTok has partnered with RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) in producing brand new educational content, which is to be highlighted throughout the month on the discover page within the app.

As defined by TikTok:

“Sexual Assault Awareness Month is a time to recognise the important conversations happening on our platform about sexual violence, recovery, and advocacy. We’ve been working with experts to improve our understanding of sexual assault and trauma and how to foster a safe and supportive space for survivors. Now, we’re rolling out new resources we developed with guidance from experts. Our goal is to make access to support readily available to anyone in need and educate the broader community on this important issue.”

The guides will present and provide recommendations, knowledge and advice on sexual assault. It will include links to the National Sexual Assault Hotline. For those in need of help or looking for more advice.

Along with this, TikTok is adamant about creating extra assistance tools. Within the coming months to educate and help their users address, understand, and confront issues concerning them and others.

All in all, given the young audience TikTok hold, this is an important initiative. The app has come under heavy scrutiny over its representation of young girls; particularly it’s content within its recommendations. In October, TikTok was temporarily banned in Pakistan over “immoral and indecent” content. The app has also been prohibited in other regions as “pornographic and inappropriate” video clips were uploaded.

Given the reach TikTok hold, this could be a big move and essential role in normalising such behaviour and educating younger people. Suppose TikTok successfully provides tools and the necessary resources required to help users better understand their support options and the definitions around such. In that case, it could and will have a significant impact.

All in all, this is a positive and new initiative from TikTok. Not just for the month but moving forward in a brighter direction.
