Youtube Makes The Decision To Remove Dislike Count On Videos
After months of testing the removal of the dislike button from videos, Youtube is now going ahead with completely removing public dislike counts from the platform.
This means that only the video’s creator will be able to view the dislikes when viewing their private video statistics.
Youtube has announced this change is happening in order to prevent “dislike attaching behaviour” where smaller creators were being harassed. This effort to remove dislikes is part of a continual effort to improve inclusivity and respect on the platform. “This is just one of many steps we are taking to continue to protect creators from harassment…Our work is not done, and we’ll continue to invest here.”
To test the impact of this change Youtube conducted an experiment earlier this year where it tested users behavioural reactions to when the dislike count was shown compared to when just the dislike button was visible. They found that users were less likely to exhibit
when just the button was visible. Finally, for our previous #SocialShort, click here.
