Colour of the Year: Classic Blue

The Pantone Colour Institute Announces The Colour Of 2020

Back in December, The Pantone Colour Institute announced what it would be the company’s Colour of the Year 2020, the Pantone 19-4502 Classic Blue. “Imprinted in our psyches as a restful colour, Classic Blue brings a sense of peace and tranquillity to the human spirit, offering refuge. A reflective blue tone, Classic Blue fosters resilience.”

This colour is a result of an extensive research analysing the global culture and “reflects what individuals feel they need that colour can hope to answer.”

The Classic Blue evokes the sky at dusk that conveys a feeling of “peace and tranquility to the human spirit” while also challenges us to “think more deeply, increase our perspective and open the flow of communication”.

This is the first time that the Pantone Colour Institute has partnered with creative studios to provide a “multi-sensory experience”, giving Classic Blue “a sound, a smell, a taste, and a feeling”. A unique way to engage people to try and discover the Colour of the Year 2020. “This desire, combined with the emotional properties of PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue, motivated us to expand beyond the visual, to bring the 2020 Pantone Colour of the Year to life through a multi-sensory experience.”

That’s why I chose the Classic Blue for my Creative Challenge. While designing a cover for my lockdown playlist, I decided to make the Classic blue my main colour as it reflects the peace I wanted to convey.
