Come on Barbie, Let’s Go Party!

With the new Barbie movie coming out this summer, the trailer (and the memes associated with it) are taking the world by storm.

The new Barbie movie, starring Margot Robbie as Barbie and a bleach-blonde Ryan Gosling as Ken, is coming out this summer and has taken the internet by storm. After the trailer was released last week, a slew of memes emerged on social media platforms with the tagline “This Barbie is…” followed by a distinctive feature or trait.

The movie’s Instagram page, @barbiethemovie, created a selfie generator – for fans to create their own Barbie-themed memes – as a clever promotional tool. All you have to do is upload a selfie of yourself and tap generate – the background and the tagline are yours to personalise. What started out as a cute and simple way of promoting the movie grew into a week-long meme frenzy that many celebrities caught onto.

One of the official posters for the Barbie movie has the tagline “She’s Everything. He’s just Ken.” Many took to Twitter, sharing their thoughts on this slogan and creating yet another meme – celebrity couples addition.

Margot Robbie has remained tight-lipped about the script and spoilers to the movie. In a recent interview she did with BAFTA, they asked for details to which her response was “Can’t tell ya!” Considering the hype around the trailer alone, we are sure that this will be a box office smash come this summer.
